HARVARD TRAINED PSYCHOLOGIST-ATTORNEY AVAILABLE IN 43 STATES VIA TELEHEALTH
In my 30+ year career, I have worked with highly successful professionals — physicians, attorneys, C-Suite executives — as well as people navigating some of life's most painful and disorienting moments. What I have learned is that success in work or school offers no protection from profound distress in relationships, mood, or sense of self.
Therapy at its best combines both insight and action.
Understanding how we got here matters — but it is not enough. Taking steps, both in life and during therapy to heal and make changes is essential for an effective and satisfying outcome. For these reasons, my approach to therapy combines the depth orientation of psychodynamic / mindfulness-oriented psychotherapies with the action oriented aspects of cognitive-behavioral, behavioral and internal focusing techniques. This combination allows us to move quickly toward real change rather than simply developing a more articulate understanding of the problem.
Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)
For those with an interest in this modern twist, I also draw on Internal Family Systems therapy — an innovative and increasingly well-researched model that works with the internal "family" of parts that drive our behaviors, self-criticism, and conflicts. I have trained extensively in IFS at all three levels, including directly with its founder Dr. Richard Schwartz, and have co-led national conference trainings, co-led with Dr. Schwartz, on integrating IFS with psychoanalytic approaches.
IFS has particular utility in working with executives and other professionals seeking to better understand the internal forces and life residue that may be impacting their effectiveness and contentment.
But IFS is not for everyone or every situation and I remain grounded and long experienced in the more traditional therapeutic modalities as well - including psychodynamic, CBT and mindfulness-oriented approaches.
