HEALING LONG TERM RELATIONSHIP INJURIES

Repair and Reconnection Through Essential Skill Building

Healing your relationship injuries is closer at hand than you think.

Our culture has not taught us much of anything about understanding, attending to and healing emotional injuries, in ourselves or those we care about.

As a result, most people and couples plod forwards nursing resentments and grudges that rarely get worked out.  The partners yearn for understanding and feel a sense of injustice in not being recognized.  But at the same time, the injured and the injurer typically lack the essential skills and understandings that can create a path to healing and reconnection.

The good news is that there are some essential skills that can be taught very quickly and implemented to help each partner honor their feelings and seek understanding and repair from their partner.  And similarly, there are some essential skills for the listener to receive, validate and offer repair to their partner, creating reconnection and renewed trust, even after years of false starts and discouragement.

Having spent years as a psychologist in the busiest divorce court in Massachusetts, Dr. Rosen has witnessed the pain that divorcing couples and their children go through.  This has sparked a passion in him for helping couples identify paths to healing and reconnection to avoid that painful path if possible.

But he is also a realist and he also helps people navigate the path of separation and custody challenges where that has occurred or appears necessary.

Internal Family Systems Therapy for Individuals

In addition to extensive training and experience in traditional models of psychotherapy, such as psychoanalytic and cognitive-behavioral methods, Dr. Rosen discovered mid-career an innovative and potent modern method known as Internal Family Systems therapy, a remarkable and powerful method of working with the "family" of our internal parts.  This powerful psychotherapy model incorporates all of the understandings based in traditional therapy models (e.g. psychoanalysis, cognitive-behavioral), but uses a distinct procedure for accessing foundational aspects of our personality and internal challenges.  It has a remarkable power for helping people to understand and change longstanding challenges with self-criticism, self-sabotage as well as internal and external conflicts in their lives.

Dr. Rosen has trained extensively in the IFS model (Levels I, II and III), including training with the founder of the IFS model, Dr. Richard Schwartz, with whom Dr. Rosen has directly collaborated.  Dr. Rosen has co-led, with Richard Schwartz, trainings at national conferences regarding the integration of IFS with psychoanalytic psychotherapies.
